A Night of Healing Through Reggae: June 27, 2019

In 2019, the Black Lives Matter movement echoed across North Carolina, a time marked by intense emotional weight and collective struggle, especially within communities of color. The air was heavy—grief, anger, and anxiety intertwined in everyday life. Mental health was declining all around us. For us, the burden became deeply personal on June 27, 2019.

That evening, seeking a moment of relief, we attended a live reggae concert in Greensboro, NC. It wasn’t just a concert—it was a spiritual intervention. The rhythmic pulse of the music, the communal energy, and the soul-stirring lyrics offered a kind of sanctuary. That space became more than entertainment—it became therapy- an oasis.

For Demika, the experience was truly mind-blowing.She experienced the healing power of music therapy through roots reggae music. The steady, grounding beats of reggae slowed the racing of an anxiety-filled heart and gave her the space to breathe again. Past traumas softened by the sound and negative thoughts were gently released while making room for a surge of positive energy.

That night reminded us of the importance of healing spaces—especially in times of deep societal unrest. Music, particularly reggae, became a tool for emotional release and self-reclamation. In a world that often forgets the mental toll carried by marginalized communities, this concert stood as a reminder: healing is revolutionary.

Within just two months of that transformative reggae concert, Vibin’ In Peace Entertainment was born. By August 30, 2019, we were already hosting our very first show—pouring our energy into creating a space where music healing, and community could come together.

In the face of a crisis, we stepped up. We planted seeds—literally and figuratively. We grew food, gathered donations, and distributed nourishment to our community. In a time of scarcity and fear, we chose action, compassion, and care.

2021, we were done waiting in the house! We were over the fear, the pause, and the pain. We knew our community needed a release, a gathering, an oasis—just like the one that had healed us in 2019. So, we brought that vision to life. Vibin’ In Peace Roots Reggae & Culture Fest wasn’t just a festival—it was a homecoming for the spirit, a celebration of resilience, a space for joy, remembrance, and resistance. Through music, art, and culture, we reconnected and recharged—together as a community!
